Library no longer serving public

It’s bad enough that the Richland County Public Library is moving out books to make way for public meeting rooms. But even beyond that, I think it has lost its way.

Scrapping the old, accepted way of filing books (the Dewey Decimal Classification system) is just stupid. It worked perfectly well, and now I cannot find books. A library staff member helping me also had trouble finding material, and agreed with my assessment.

Access to electronic books is very difficult, even for those who are semi-savvy with computers. In an electronic library (Hoopla, for example), searching by subject or key words is almost impossible. Also, once while I was reading a book in Hoopla, the book and Hoopla just disappeared from the screen.

We taxpayers deserve better.
