Letters: 5 reforms that would improve learning
There are five things the Legislature could do to reform our schools:
Make recesses mandatory — 15 minutes around 10 a.m. and 45 minutes after a 20-minute lunch period.
Forbid any student to be in a school building before 8 a.m., and shorten the school day by one hour.
Make sure all curricula are developmentally and age appropriate.
Prohibit prescribing Adderall for any children who were not deprived of oxygen at birth.
Send children outside for 20 minutes of free time instead of giving them drugs.
As individuals, we could help by working together to place two books in every child’s home: The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes by Kenneth Taylor and The Egermeier Bible Story Book by Elsie Egermeier. Children are spiritual beings, and their spiritual needs have to be met if they are to have a happy life. The Bible is the greatest book ever written, and no one is truly educated who does not know it. It reveals to us the mind of God.
