Letters: Lexington 4 bond poorly thought-out
I was sold on the $25.4 million bond referendum for Lexington District 4 until I attended a meeting this month and asked, “Will we be able to have graduation at the new 1,200-seat multipurpose performing arts center?” The answer was no, because that requires at least a 3,000-seat center; we would continue to use the Colonial Center at a cost of $30,000 per year.
Multiply $30,000 by 10 years of payments for the Colonial Center, and there is your money for the extra seating.
This issue needs to go back to the drawing board so we can consider just the arts center first, with 3,000 seats, and add the athletic facilities and classroom expansions later. The school board is trying to do too much at one time.
