Letters: Election ‘rigging’ a farfetched idea

My family and I have worked the polls at elections in Richland County for the past three years. Despite Donald Trump’s allegations to the contrary, we’ve never seen the “rigging” he mentions, and I’m writing because I don’t want South Carolinians to think otherwise.

The S.C. Election Commission welcomes volunteers to work the election precincts, and I’d encourage anyone to try it. The hours are long — from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. with an hour before to set up voting machines and an hour afterward to take down machines, run a tally and post the results. The pay is negligible. But those who participate are not doing it for the pay.

I resent Mr. Trump’s words and assume he’s never even taken the time to visit and learn about the workings of his voting district. If you have questions, do your own investigation; don’t let someone else speak for you.
