Letters: Republicans reaping what they sowed

History will reflect how Donald Trump made fools out of an entire political party.

When I begin to feel compassion for Republicans, I think back to how they started out hating this country’s first black president so much that they conspired from the start to destroy him. Then two years later, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said publicly that their No. 1 priority is to make Obama a one-term president. Before long, the GOP was embracing a man whose main point seemed to be to question the citizenship of the president.

As with Sarah Palin and the tea party, the Republicans are once again having buyers’ remorse. Maybe the Trump experience will expose the shame in their game to the very people who needed the revelation: the Republicans.
