Letters: Problem is Congress, not president

I understand why so many people are disgusted with politics and politicians; I feel the same way. Unfortunately, many voters are apparently willing to express their anger by electing a racist, misogynistic, egotistical, spoiled brat with thin skin. I prefer an alternative action.

Polls show President Obama has a 55 percent approval rating while Congress’ approval is close to 10 percent, consistent with my belief that it is Congress, not the president, that has failed to do its job. Remember when Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Republicans’ primary objective was for President Obama to be a one-term president? Seriously? This is the attitude of so many of our representatives, both Republicans and Democrats: They are more concerned about their political party than the country.

House members are virtually guaranteed reelection because both parties have engaged in such extensive gerrymandering of districts that the voters mindlessly vote them back into office without seriously considering a candidate from the other party. Do people really believe their representative is the only competent one in the House they hold in such low esteem?

Our legitimate anger at politicians would best be expressed by voting out all of the representatives and senators who are up for reelection this year, not by voting for someone for president who is so clearly unqualified and ill-suited for the job.
