Letters: Clinton has better record on women’s rights
The presidential election is an important one in terms of the preservation and expansion of women’s rights, and the American Association of University Women, active since 1881, is in the forefront of this fight.
AAUW has created a non-partisan voter guide (aauwaction.org) with the positions of Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Tim Kaine and Mike Pence. This guide is a public service and not intended as an endorsement of any candidate. Positions were determined using their voting records, public statements and campaign position papers and trusted internet sources.
Mr. Trump opposes ensuring women’s free access to contraception, reducing barriers to voting and judges who uphold civil-rights laws and established legal precedents, which Clinton supports. Trump has a mixed record on support for federal laws to address bullying and harassment against all students and the Paycheck Fairness Act to close the gender pay gap, which Clinton supports.
Mr. Pence opposes the Paycheck Fairness Act, raising the federal minimum wage, ensuring women’s access to free contraception, a federal law to address bullying and harassment and reducing barriers to voting, which Mr. Kaine supports.
