Letters: Electoral College should do its duty

AP

The Electoral College was established so that, should an inept person be chosen by the voters, learned officials could override the voters.

In the Federalist Papers, Alexander Hamilton stated, “The process of election affords a moral certainty, that the office of President will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in an eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications.”

A man who has never held political office, served in the military or shown any sense of civic duty is in line to become president. He has been accused by 15 woman of sexual assault. He just settled a case of fraud with 6,000 people. He refuses to liquidate his assets and place them in a blind trust. He is under IRS audit but will soon have the power to appoint people to head the IRS. He was recently found guilty of violating labor laws in Nevada but will soon be appointing three of the five members of the National Labor Relations Board.

On Dec. 19, electors should do their civic duty and use their position as it was intended and vote against Donald Trump. This should be an obvious choice since he also lost the popular vote.
