Letters: Change electoral vote allocation

.

I have trouble “getting over” the fact that while Hillary Clinton won the popular vote with 2.5 million more votes than Donald Trump, we will inaugurate him as our president.

We allow a system developed centuries ago to placate slave states to determine who becomes our president. One man, one vote? I don’t think so; in 2000 and 2016, my vote simply didn’t count.

Let’s show the world that we are a democracy by eliminating the Electoral College and using the popular vote to elect our president.

Meanwhile, join me in contacting your state senator and representative to urge them to change state law so the electoral vote reflects the popular vote. In November, 40 percent of S.C. voters chose Secretary Clinton and 56 percent chose Mr. Trump, yet all nine electoral votes will go to Mr. Trump. Why not four for Secretary Clinton and five for Mr. Trump, thus representing the real will of the voters?
