Letters: Are movie theaters doing permanent damage?

My son, grandchildren and I went to Regal Cinema at Sandhill recently, and the previews and the movie itself were so incredibly loud as to amaze. A month earlier a girlfriend and I had the same experience at the same theater, but at least after the previews, the movie itself was a bit less loud.

Does anyone check the decibel level of movies nowadays? Is there a dangerous range where one’s hearing is impacted? I worry about the harm to young ears bombarded with such loud sound.

Is it just me? Is it just that theater? Or have others moviegoers experienced the same?
