Many South Carolinians are profoundly pleased with UN Ambassador Nikki Haley’s remarks toward Russia after its aggressive actions in Eastern Ukraine. She said that while it was unfortunate that she had to condemn Russia in her first appearance at the Security Council and while the United States wants better relations with Russia, it also “continues to condemn and call for an immediate end” to Russia’s occupation of Crimea.

Having traveled extensively in Eastern Europe, served in the military and taught history in the Baltic nation of Lithuania, I am aware of the need to support NATO against Russian threats.

Ambassador Haley deserves our support and prayers in her new role.
