Letters: If we build a better bus service, more people will ride buses

I was horrified recently to see two elderly women sitting on the ground waiting for the bus on St. Andrews Road. All I could think of was fire ants in pants. There was not even a bench or covered area to protect them from the rain or the summer heat. Nor was there a place to post and view a schedule.

If there were a cover to protect people from the elements and a place to sit while they wait, the service might be used more by the people who need it most: the elderly and special-needs folks who don’t drive and car-less parents with children.

Other medium-sized cities provide these necessities to make their bus service safer and more efficient and to encourage more people to use public transportation. Why not Columbia?
