Letters: SCE&G charging us for not using power
Because February was so warm, I used less electricity and less gas than last year, so my electric costs were lower than usual. But my gas costs were higher.
It turns out that I used 35 fewer therms, but I was charged $26 more because I SCE&G charged me a “weather normalization fee” of $35 extra. Essentially, I was charged for 32 therms of gas I did not use so SCE&G could meet its fixed costs. In fact, I’ve paid an extra $110 for this fee over the past three months.
Santee Cooper and Duke Power (in South Carolina) do not charge this fee; SCE&G should not be allowed to either.
To borrow a script line from a movie in the 70s, “I’m mad as hell, and I am not going to take it any longer!”
We all need to do something instead of just complaining. Write to the state Office of Regularly Staff, call your state legislators and/or make a formal complaint to SCE&G. Let’s get rid of this.
