Letters: Why won’t Richland, Lexington counties fight sprawl?

The Ballentine area is struggling to cope with steady influx of homes and stores on northeast corner of Lake Murray.

After reading the article concerning too much unplanned growth in Blythewood, I realized that was the third such article in less than a month. First Chapin, then Ballentine, followed by the article on Blythewood.

What is going on here? Why do Lexington and Richland counties think we all want to live in urban sprawl? Why is the zoning so antiquated? Why can’t they restrict developments? Why are open land, wetlands, forests and farmland being taken away from us?

I suppose I don’t understand this because I previously lived in a township that had zoning that restricted urban sprawl. Can someone please give me a good reason?
