Letters: Congress continues to fail us

AP

I have been following the news for 60 years, and the divisions between the parties and the races are steadily worsening. The guilty parties include the old guard of both political parties, most (not all) news people, the race hustlers, the feminist movement, the talk shows and the false stories on Facebook and Twitter. Most people see bits and pieces of the news and are frequently misled.

Consider what has been accomplished by Congress in the past 16 years, and you wonder why we even have a Congress. All members have a large staff, an expense account and take so-called fact-finding trips around the world, yet they fail to do what voters sent them to accomplish. This is one big reason for term limits.

We have been a successful country of laws for many years. Lately some politicians think they can pick and choose the laws to follow. That is not how our government is supposed to work. If elected officials don’t like the law, it is their job to change it — not to ignore it. It is our job to make sure Congress does its job; let members know they are failing us miserably.
