Letters: Open Studios Columbia great for artists, great for visitors
I was one of many nonresidents of Columbia to attend last month’s Columbia Open Studios tour. The studio crawl was well-organized and exceeded all expectations. The artists were beyond hospitable, taking time to speak with each of us, answering our questions, teaching us about their equipment and techniques.
With Google Maps, we hunted down studios from Lexington through West Columbia, Cayce, the Vista and the Shandon areas, “Amazing Race” style.
I already supported fundraisers for the arts, but I will do more now that I have met the artists and administration.
This event familiarized me with Columbia and suburbs. I discovered new restaurants and stores to visit. I hope the city continues to support events like this. This was an outstanding event that will draw many visitors in the future.
I would like to thank The State for being a reputable source of news, business and lifestyle and to thank the Columbia leaders who make events such as Columbia Open Studios, Soda City and the many outdoor concerts possible. Keep it up.
