Letters: Telemarketers are out of control

Charlotte Observer

I receive an average of six calls a day from telemarketers, not only on my landline but also on my cell. Both my numbers are on the government’s do-not-call registry, so obviously they don’t bother to check it. Friends say, just hang up, but that’s not the point. They are intruding. I don’t appreciate having to run get the phone when I’m somewhere else in the house and have someone say “Hi, my name is ___,” and they are going to give me a cruise, lower my credit card interest or help me with my student loan.

I am a senior, retired and never had a student loan.

I have reported several calls to the registry, but officials there get so many complaints they can’t keep up.

If you want to give me $1 million, just mail it and surprise me. No need to call.
