Letters: An easy way to distinguish parties

.

My sister recently said to me, “Democrats are the party of ‘we.’ Republicans are the party of ‘me.’” At the time I thought this was an oversimplification, but after House Republicans voted to cut $839 billion from Medicaid in order to give a $765 billion tax cut to the wealthiest among us, I am inclined to agree with her. They gleefully celebrated taking away health care from the poor, sick and disabled so that rich people can be richer.

The most ironic thing about the vote is that Republicans almost universally claim to be Christians. But the Jesus I know and love would never vote for such a cruel bill.
