Letters: Why can’t Coach Staley get equal pay?

USC men’s basketball coach Frank Martin’s salary is $2.8 million. This year, his team made it to the Final Four.

USC women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley’s salary is $1.4 million. Coach Staley’s team has three regular season SEC championships, two SEC tournament titles and four Sweet 16 appearances. This year, Coach Staley’s team won the National Championship. Coach Staley is honored in the Neismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and has received many other awards. She has tripled the fan base over the past three seasons.

As a loyal fan of the USC women’s basketball team, I witnessed the USC president and the athletics director celebrating with the women’s team at the National Championship in Dallas and at the State House.

What I didn’t see or hear was sincere appreciation and honor for Coach Staley by standing up and speaking out for equal pay for her superior work.
