Letters: The downside to impeaching Trump

President Donald Trump may be the worst person to ever hold the office of U.S. president, the epitome of the phrase “a betrayal of our ideals.” He is morally bankrupt, and his disregard for our laws astonishes us daily.

However, there is a serious problem with impeaching and convicting him. We would end up with Mike Pence as president.

Pence is no different than Trump (and possibly worse). He would continue the Trump assault on women’s rights, the environment, the reality of climate change, freedom of the press and Muslims.

Pence would just be smoother, less bombastic and more secretive. The outright lies would continue when it suited him.

Trump-style gaslighting would continue, but with Pence it would creep up on us quietly as his cronies work to benefit themselves and their business friends.
