How proud we should be that former S.C. Gov. David Beasley is heading up the effort to fight global hunger as executive director of the U.N. World Food Program.

Let us join him by making a personal effort of our own.

Forty percent of the World Food Program’s funds come from the United States. It is not unreasonable that President Trump might want to decrease such a generous taxpayer contribution. The way to ensure that America continues to provide generous support to this just and urgent cause is for individuals to donate their personal funds, rather than leaving this function up to the government.

It’s simple: Go to wfp.org, and send money. And while we’re at it, let’s give something to the U.N.’s efforts to relieve the world refugee crisis: unchr.org.
