Letters: Hybrid vehicle tax makes no sense

I can’t believe South Carolina is penalizing people for making purchases that will help air quality and preserve a national resource. I project that it will take eight years for hybrid-vehicle owners to recover the cost of the premium they have to pay.

It would make more sense to tax passenger vehicles based on their gross weight.
