Letters: If all else fails, government acts as bully

In watching from afar the battle between Dreher High School and Richland District 1 on one side versus the homeowners in neighborhoods bordering Dreher on the other, three things became abundantly clear: One, Dreher has no intention of honoring its agreement with its neighbors; two, if they can’t negotiate their way out of previous agreements, the institutions will try to bully the homeowners into submission, using, three, “the children” and their plight as the moral shield and defense of their position.

This battle is but a microcosm of the way governments, big and small, now operate: high-sounding justifications for harming the citizen, then bullying and, finally, guilt. And if it doesn’t work the first time, they just wait, using manipulation and coercion at a later date until they finally get their way.
