Letters: What if truth dies?
The question of truth is as old as humanity. It is obvious that God is concerned about truth, as there are 30 references to it in Holy Scripture.
A recent issue of Time magazine asked, “Is Truth Dead?” It speaks as to “how fact-challenged President Donald Trump delivers deliberate and strategic lies to control the national debate.”
Foreign Affairs editor Gideon Rose writes that “every administration spins, fights with the press and the bureaucracy, pushes its own agenda, and tries to evade intrusive oversight. But ordinary White Houses do not repeatedly lie, declare war on mainstream media institutions, pursue radical goals while disdaining professional input, and refuse to accept independent scrutiny.”
Truth is of utmost importance in the nation that is the world leader for peace, justice, liberty, freedom and standing for the rights God gives every human soul — to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Untruths from the White House, the heart of this government, can create untold damage to this nation’s security and in turn to a stable world community.
Could untruth stumble us into an unwanted military engagement?
Could a series of untruths result in the unraveling of the programs that the general population relies upon for daily living?
Could untruth regarding tax policy enrich those who have at the expense of those who have not?
The list goes on.
The message for the White House is clear. Do not leave the people of this great nation asking the question Pilate put before Jesus: “What is Truth?”
