Letters: Giving up council salaries is a big deal
A brief article in The State reported that members of the Town Council in Batesburg-Leesville gave up their own salaries to fund raises for the town employees (“Batesburg-Leesville leaders OK giving up pay for employees’ raise,” June 13). That to me is big news, bold action by individuals answering to a higher calling than themselves. This is what fiscal responsibility looks like. Bravo for the taxpayers of Batesville-Leesville.
South Carolina’s Legislature and congressional delegation should take a lesson from the Batesburg-Leesville Town Council. Even with small steps, others could follow the giants.
