Everyone thought Hillary Clinton was going to be the next president. I think the Democrats also knew Obamacare was going to fail in the long run, but they thought that once she was elected, they would be able to “save” it by amending it to become socialized medicine.

Ask the folks in Canada and England how they feel about socialized medicine. I want to choose my doctors, not have someone tell me who I can see for my medical issues.
