Letters: How dare you take away both my libraries
As an avid library visitor, I am outraged by the poorly planned renovations for the Richland County library system. My concerns include not only the timing of the renovations but also the design.
Even though the Cooper branch has been undergoing renovations for an extended period and is still not open, administrators closed the Wheatley branch on July 1 to begin renovations. This makes two libraries unavailable to many patrons in Forest Acres, Lake Katherine, Shandon, Heathwood and more. Many, including senior citizens, now have to drive to inconvenient locations outside their neighborhoods.
Two public libraries so close together should never be closed for renovations at the same time. In the future, when public libraries are due to be renovated, perhaps affected communities should be given the opportunity to be involved in the process.
