Letters: Here’s an easy way to help troubled teens
I recently watched the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why.” It’s about a teenage girl who commits suicide after some very difficult turns in her life. The series was moving and thought-provoking for me, and I would recommend it to all teachers.
The series addressed the challenges faced by teenagers today, including drug and alcohol abuse, sexual assaults and cyber bullying. The cyber bullying portrayed was especially troubling and made me realize that my high school challenges many years ago were nothing compared to challenges that could be faced by today’s teenagers. While the show is graphic, I believe it’s worth the time for adults to watch and learn what we should do to recognize and understand troubled teens and try to help them through difficult times.
