Letters: After 50 years, our address is wrong? Seriously?

An odd thing came in the mail this past week. We received a code violation from Columbia due to our house number not being displayed correctly. This house was moved here from the Columbia College area in the mid-1960s. Sometime in the 1980s or early 1990s the area was annexed into Columbia. We have lived here since 1997.

In all of that time, the house number on the mail box has apparently been fine. The fire trucks and ambulance have been here without fail upon request. The plumbing and heating and air companies found us too — until they began using GPS, which apparently places us on the other side of the street. Perhaps GPS is the real issue here.

It’s just amazing to live in the same place for more than 20 years, and all of a sudden you’re in code violation. Grandfather in any one? The powers of all levels of government do not cease to amaze me.
