Letters: Boy Scouts deserve to be treated with respect

AP

The Boy Scouts of America is a great institution that has taught values and skills to thousands and thousands of young men over the years. President Donald Trump could have given an inspirational talk to our future leaders, but he gave a locker room talk filled with insults and bits of profanity. A public school teacher would have been fired for such behavior.

These innocent young men were a captive audience seeking affirmation and encouragement, but instead they received a political speech filled with hate and derogatory comments.

As an Eagle Scout, I am indebted to my scoutmaster, now 87 years old, who touched my life at an important stage. It is so sad that President Trump took the low road and does not comprehend the point of scouting. Let us support the Boy Scouts of America with deep respect and honor.
