Letters: Let’s salvage good from nuclear failure

Now that SCE&G and Santee Cooper have wisely decided to scrap the nuclear plant boondoggle, I doubt that any of us who paid for the failed plants will receive any rebates or refunds. But it’s still possible for something good to come of the decision.

Why not make the construction site a solar farm, at a fraction of the cost of the nuclear plant and provide safe, renewable energy, using the funds we have already paid to the utilities?

And why doesn’t SCE&G lease some of the unused parking lots around Columbia — like those at Columbia Place Mall and Dutch Square — and convert them to solar farms too? Converting useless paved parking lots into safe energy producers. That’s a win.
