Letters: Volunteers treated to kindness of a stranger
All we seem to hear about these days are meanness and tragedies, so you can imagine our shock when we recently experienced the exceptional kindness of a stranger.
Six of us had met for lunch at Denny’s Diner after our monthly drill of the S.C. State Guard; two others joined us in street clothes. Halfway through our meal, our waitress told us another diner had paid for all our meals and left her a nice tip. We have no idea who this altruistic woman is, as she had already left the diner.
We volunteer with the State Guard because we choose to help our fellow Carolinians, not because we have to. To have our volunteerism recognized like this gives us assurance there are good people everywhere.
We thank the nameless woman for her generosity. We have paid it forward and hope others will understand the goodness in people.
