Letters: More law enforcement can tame interstate ‘race tracks’
Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says that Interstate 20 is a race track (“‘People view I-20 as a race track,’ Kershaw sheriff says of lead-footed drivers,” July 30). That’s true, but it is not just a race track in Kershaw County.
My husband and I are retired, and have traveled I-20 east and west, I-77 north and south and I-95 north and south on numerous occasions during the past six years. We have always wondered why we saw little law enforcement presence in South Carolina. On every trip, we observed troopers in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina and Virginia. Their presence was highly visible and active.
In my opinion, South Carolina contributes greatly to this race-track mentality.
