Letters: Drinking and Bible study don’t mix
Was the Aug. 4 article, “Talking faith over a pint? SC churches say it works,” really front-page news or another effort to promote consumption of alcoholic beverages? Particularly interesting was the quote that “This is not your typical bar where it’s smoky and people are gonna start throwing chairs.”
I’ve seen no statistics showing how many people were killed by a driver smoking a cigarette, but 10,265 people died in alcohol-related crashes. This doesn’t include those murdered, burglarized, hazed or abused by someone intoxicated.
I pray all the participants of this Bible study are walking home or riding a donkey, as they would have done if they lived in Jesus’ time. Christians should be a testimony to others — above reproach, not a stumbling block. As a Christian, I find the best way to become “enlightened” to the scriptures is to pray before you begin your study.
