Letters: Here’s the upside to the SCE&G nuclear debacle
South Carolina is fast becoming inundated with nuclear waste, some low level and some high level. According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, plutonium 239 has a half life of 24,000 years, which means half the radioactivity will decay in 24,000 years.
The recent power plant debacle is very frustrating, and will probably result in long-term utility rate increases, but future generations may have a different perspective.
