Put an end to sanctuary cities

Our cities and the mayors that lead them must obey the laws of our country. They can challenge them through the judicial system, but mayors do not have the right to ignore them without penalty, in the same way I cannot ignore a speeding ticket by pleading that the limit is too low as I exceed it.

I applaud Attorney General Jeff Sessions for threatening to withhold federal funds for cities that do not obey federal law. If Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin refuses to obey federal law, he should step away from his position or not be reelected should Columbia lose federal funding.

It was stupid of the Obama administration to initially ignore federal law and stupid of Mayor Benjamin and the U.S. Conference of Mayors and its partnership with their police chiefs (many of whom are hired or fired by mayors) to take advantage of that. Let’s bring some respect for the law to Columbia.
