Don’t invite trashy people to SC State House grounds

SC State House
SC State House jblake@thestate.com

I object to the idea of using the State House grounds as a “front porch” to showcase our state and our hospitality.

The State House grounds do not belong to the mayor of Columbia or to just the people of Columbia, but rather to every citizen of our state. As one of these citizens I object to the idea of setting up a “for free” anything on the State House grounds.

The city of Columbia has Finlay Park, and that can be used as a showcase (once it is cleaned up), but we do not need to provide another facility to attract those who do not take pride in our state and would soon have these grounds designated as trash bins.
