Wednesday letters: Double standards surround race
I have a hard time understanding how one group in society is chastised and penalized for degrading an ethnic group, as in the Oklahoma fraternity situation (I’m not condoning what they did).
Members of this group are branded for the rest of their young lives, and possibly facing legal problems.
Members of another ethnic group can degrade, demoralize and use the same word that the Oklahoma fraternity used, and they are considered “rap artists.” I am sure the Juilliard School for the Performing Arts would have a hard time using rap and artist in the same sentence. This group is rewarded monetarily and, in some instances, considered mentors. How is this not a double standard?
