‘Christian slavery’ letter shouldn’t have been printed
I would like to protest the printing of the latest letter by Winston McCuen (“Teach truth about the virtues of slavery,” Sept. 20). I say “latest” because a quick search shows that this is hardly the first time he has had a letter printed that advocates white supremacy.
Free speech is essential, and McCuen has the right to believe whatever ignorant nonsense he believes without fear of being jailed. What he is not entitled to is having his racism amplified by a major newspaper.

McCuen’s letters are not simple “differences of opinion.” I see tons of letters that I disagree with entirely. My own father is on the opposite end of the political spectrum from me, and sometimes I find that frustrating.
However, McCuen isn’t writing about his thoughts on Black Lives Matter or praise for the Trump administration. He is advocating outright white supremacy. He believes that slavery was good and that black people are inherently inferior. Again, he can believe that garbage all he wants, but I think it’s downright repulsive for a newspaper like The State to treat his views as worth listening to.
