SC legislators know exactly what they’re doing

Jim Rex summed up the political situation in our state very well in his Oct. 2 guest column, “SC utilities aren’t the only monopolies responsible for our nuclear fiasco,” and he was correct to suggest that utility officials and politicians should give up their gains taken on the backs of taxpayers, ratepayers and investors. They get away with this because most people do not read or understand what is going on.

Unfortunately, I am afraid nothing will come of this sad episode in our state history. In my opinion, there is a reason most politicians are not interested in real education and ethics reform: An educated electorate with true ethics laws will give the people the power to make the elite accountable.
