Here’s an easy way to cut SC road costs
While waiting for the light to turn green, take a minute and count the number of cars with no passengers, just the driver. I usually count about one car in 10 with a passenger. Why is this? Are we going to continue spending huge amounts of taxpayer money to accommodate all of these vehicles, or can we be proactive and get to the crux of the problem?
All through Europe and in many U.S. cities, mass transportation works. In Chicago, for example, buses run every five to 10 minutes, and passes are available so things keep moving. Suppose you could park your car for free at the starting point, wait a few minutes and hop on a bus. Just relax and read the paper, or whatever. You might be able to eliminate a car.
The obvious benefits would be saving gas, reducing pollution, increasing exercise and saving gosh knows how much money on infrastructure. It seems like a no-brainer. Doesn’t it?
