Guns are what keep us free

Letter writer Ken Armstrong asked on Oct. 12, “Why do we need all these guns?” In short, because they keep us free.

The Second Amendment is not about hunting and recreational shooting. It is about defending against tyranny of the government. This is why the founding fathers made the right to bear arms second only to freedom of speech.

Mr. Armstrong says we have 42 percent of the privately owned guns in the world. This is why we are the most free country in the world. Guns are not evil; they are tools of freedom from evil.

“Silencers” are a Hollywood movie creation. Suppressors are like a muffler on a car: The gun still makes a loud bang, just not as loud, to protect the ears of the shooter. It is really called a suppressor.

Some of us stand ready to defend our liberty, ourselves and our family. Twice in my life I have been in a situation where I might not be here today if not for my gun. I thank God I did not have to shoot. Guns save innocent people every day, and it mostly goes unreported.
