Episcopal Diocese fighting to worship as it wants
Some or perhaps many may think that the schism in the Episcopal Church is all about prejudice against gays and women. Actually, it is about the right of the Diocese of South Carolina to continue worshiping where and how we have for more than 300 years. Our beliefs have not changed, but the national church has gradually interpreted the Bible to fit modern times. I wouldn’t want to explain that to Jesus Christ.
We still believe in John 14:6: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This is the belief that defines Christianity. As to the $500 million in property that the national church wants to take from us, the money to build it all came form inside our diocese.
If the S.C. Supreme Court’s split decision is allowed to stand, it is not just our diocese that will suffer. This is an important battle for people of any religion who believe in and are willing to fight for the freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
