Sexual harassment allegations are a distraction

AP

I am not defending all the men who have been accused of sexual harassment, but I do question why they are not given the benefit of our nation’s foundational belief that one is innocent until proven guilty. These men, many of whom have risen to their positions because of their achievements and continued to make contributions up until their firings based on allegations, now have lost their livelihoods and reputations, affecting their families as well.

Some of the women may simply be attention-seekers or disgruntled former employees, yet is their credibility thoroughly examined?

Businesses and government should make clear the standards of behavior for all employees, then investigate thoroughly any allegations before anyone’s reputation and employment are jeopardized, not just acting out of the fear of fallout.

All this mudslinging is a distraction from major events and decisions facing our nation, so let’s move on.
