Lindsey Graham is riding the wrong horse
Sen. Lindsay Graham, once a moderate Republican, fiscal hawk, and promoter of just wars, has sold his soul to the devil. He has chosen to butter-up Donald Trump by carrying his clubs around Trump’s golf courses and heaping obsequious praise on our president at every opportunity.
Apparently he knows that President Trump won South Carolina handily and figures he can put a T next to the R after his name and ensure his lifetime appointment to the Senate.
There is, however, a fly in this ointment: Although there are many who are happy with the Trump presidency, many are not. Many South Carolinians voted for Trump because they were unhappy with the status quo and wanted change; some voted for him because they didn’t like Hillary Clinton; some may have unknowingly paid attention to social media, not realizing that many of the posts they read were from “bots” and not actual people. I suspect that if Donald Trump were to run today against a generic Democrat, he would lose.
I hope Sen. Graham will hold up a finger in the breeze, see which way the wind is blowing and come to his senses.
