Why can’t we at least get roads right?

As an Eisenhower Republican, all I want the government to do is have a fair tax code and keep up our infrastructure, neither of which has been done of late. Even fans of the recent tax bill admit that most of it benefits go to the rich.

As to the roads, anyone driving any direction from Columbia on our interstate system would have to admit that it fails to encourage investment in our great state.

Try going on 1-20, and see the months-long debacle just west of Columbia. I-77 on the other side of Columbia was torn up for years. Recently I saw a 150-mile-long backup on 1-95 from the Georgia line to 1-26 and on to Columbia.

Do our leaders notice such things, or are they driven everywhere they go? If you can’t fix the roads, you do not need to be in public service.

The State publishes a cross section of the letters we receive from South Carolinians in order to provide a forum for our community and also to allow our community to get a good look at itself, for good or bad. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not necessarily of The State.
