Stockholders should pick up more of the cost for the abandoned nuclear reactors

The people of South Carolina have been flim-flammed, and SCE&G officials have showed no sincere financial accountability or remorse over the burden their V.C. Summer nuclear construction debacle has placed on ratepayers.

I can see the pretty rainbow they painted at the onset of the project about its value for the state, but there quickly became an underlying greed and irresponsibility of funds. While the company made increased profits and executives got bonuses, we ratepayers struggled to make ends meet.

They took our money, mismanaged funds and showed a lack of cooperation and transparency to the Public Service Commission.

Now they cry that they will have to file for bankruptcy if the commission makes them do the right thing and return their ill-gotten money to the public.

Their loyalty was strictly to their investors, who have made millions over the years. We ratepayers could end up holding the bag, which is wrong.

Where is the risk limit for consumers?

The State publishes a cross section of the letters we receive from South Carolinians in order to provide a forum for our community and also to allow our community to get a good look at itself, for good or bad. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not necessarily of The State.
