Coyotes are a nuisance, just like feral cats

I was amused to see the S.C. director of the Humane Society of the United States giving advice to wildlife specialists on coyotes (“Stop! Don’t shoot that coyote”). This is not a species that is beneficial. This is a species that preys on anything it can catch (fawns, birds, young turkeys, small pets, rodents of all types and foxes, which are being wiped out by this species). She also failed to say that coyotes carry rabies. They also pose a threat to small children and, in packs, to adults and large animals.

This is the same organization that thinks it is OK to put feral cats back in the ecosystem, even though they wipe out song bird populations, rodents, small mammals and reptiles. They are one of the few predators that kill for the fun of it.

The State publishes a cross section of the letters we receive from South Carolinians in order to provide a forum for our community and also to allow our community to get a good look at itself, for good or bad. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not necessarily of The State.
