Why would we gamble on our energy future?
The Office of Regulatory Staff put the odds at 35 percent that SCE&G would go bankrupt if it had to stop collecting the rates related to the nuclear construction project.
Why are we continuing to consider gambling on our state’s energy future? Why is there even talk of pushing SCE&G to the edge of ruin, crippling its ability to serve the people of South Carolina? We have a fair deal on the table that helps both families and businesses.
Dominion Energy is ready to take away the uncertainty and ease the economic pressure on families and businesses. South Carolina would be smart to take the deal, rather than continue to play the odds. This deal may not check every box, but it’s fair and reasonable, puts the customer first and makes sense.
Risking our state’s economic and energy future is foolish. Let’s learn from our mistakes and not make the situation worse by ignoring a plan that offers obvious benefits for everyone.

The State publishes a cross section of the letters we receive from South Carolinians in order to provide a forum for our community and also to allow our community to get a good look at itself, for good or bad. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not necessarily of The State.
