Sunday letters: SC Senate needs to pass ethics reform
Why are senators refusing to deal with ethics reform other than to protect their own self interests? Certainly Sens. Hugh Leatherman and Luke Rankin have the power to make this happen, but they won’t promote ethics reform.
To say that this is not an important issue because they aren’t hearing anything from voters shows that they are completely unaware that many people believe it is useless to contact their legislators because they will continue to serve only their own interests, not ours.
Why don’t we have statesmen in the House and the Senate who will put the interests of the state above their own enrichment? We see so much time wasted on inconsequential items rather than addressing the real issues, such as ethics reform, better roads, equity in educational offerings and a host of others. Please, legislators, do something right.
